## The Paradigm: The Small Data Network

We present the Small Data Network paradigm as a solution to the challenges posed by the proliferation of big data. The Small Data Network recognises that the ever-expanding era of big data may have limitations. Instead, it proposes linking these expansive data centres into an interoperable and open networked ecosystem. These centres function as nodes within a network, facilitating global-scale data exchange, analysis, and utilisation.

The term "small data" describes the data within each big data centre relative to the vast network's collective data. While these data centres may contain extensive repositories within the broader context of the network, their data becomes a component of a much larger whole. This perspective shift underscores the collaborative nature of the Small Data Network, where the sum of interconnected data centres is far more significant than any single repository.

Specifically, we identify three roles: the Data Owners, the Data Network Operators, and the Service Providers.
